The addltona turn ]ane wi1l reduce the amaunt of gren time
necessary ta accommodate the left-turn movemet, which can then be provided to other
rovemerts. Minor queuing on the eastbcunc approac may occur during the p.m. peak
our.
e 1 potential improvement that is necessary to improWe th safety at the intersectio is the
additon of a southbourd right-turn ane. Thi will elimnate the conflict hetween rgh
turnrng vehcIe and throuh vehicies, and likeiy reduce te potentia for rear-end type
crashes.
t shauld be noted that alI improvements recommended above are consistent with the Boston
Scienific Campus Master Pan and wI provide acceptable overa intersection levels af service.
CFASH ANALYSIS
'o determine f there are any safety issues tha need to be addressed a review of recent crash
data was completed. Crasn data reported ta Mn/DOT during the five-year period from 2003
through 2007 vas analyzed to acdress traffic safety in the stud}j area. The crash analysis results
re summaized as follovs:
Seventy-two (72} crashes were reported W111'] the study area durng the five-year period
frorrl 2003 through 2007. The number of crashes by loeation ranged from a high o 48
reported at CR F and Lexington Avenue to a Iow of two (2) reported at R F and Innovation
VVay.
• In order to determine the signTficance of these crashesa he associated crash rates fo- these
ocatons were cacuIated. Cash rates are numerical values tht corrlpa e ore partcular
intersection to intersectons of similar charaeteristics. Crash rates for roadway sements are
compa-ed with other roadway serents o similal- charaeterstics.
