ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION-DECEMBER I5, 2008 9 <br /> maintenance workers for a total of eight people versus the nine that we had when <br /> Jim was with the City. <br /> City Administrator Moorse stated that looking into the future, the public works <br /> department cannot continue to work shorthanded. He reviewed a staffing level <br /> comparison with 13 other cities comparing workers per population and per square <br /> mile. <br /> City Administrator Moorse explained Arden Hills was below the average in <br /> workers per 10,000 residents. He recommended the City move forward with <br /> meeting the staffing level of eight maintenance workers_ <br /> Councilmember Holden stated she was in support of hiring additional staff to <br /> serve the City in the public works department. Mayor Harpstead agreed. <br /> City Administrator Moorse reviewed the situation involving Aaron and that he <br /> was searching for a job through workers compensation as he was not able to <br /> continue working for the City based on his injury and the restrictions placed on him <br /> by the union_ He indicated a separation agreement was presented to him and <br /> reviewed by Aaron and his attorney. City Administrator Moorse explained that <br /> his last day with the City would be January 14, 2009. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the staffing needs for the public works department <br /> and Council was in favor of hiring additional staff to fill the current openings. <br /> E. Sum Pump Ordinance <br /> City Administrator Moorse presented the City Council with information <br /> regarding a new sump pump ordinance. He indicated the current ordinance would <br /> allow the City to pay up to $400 for maintenance fees to assist residents in reducing <br /> I&I for Arden Hills. <br /> Councilmember Holmes indicated she was not in favor of the City paying for <br /> broken sump pumps within residential homes. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the sump pump ordinance. <br /> Councilmember McClung understood that this ordinance would assist residents in <br /> doing what they should already have done in the first place.
