The highest category within the Parks area is athletic field and court maintenance; this is
where we track our ice rink maintenance. The total for this category was 1,656 hours,
827 hours were just for rinks. Our rinks create some other unique staffing issues. when
we begin building our rinks in late November to early December, two members of our
eight person crew work an overnight shift for ice rink building. This split shift typically
lasts for three weeks. Our remaining staff continues to work a regular daytime schedule.
One of the remaining staff members of the daytime shift continues to flood the rinks to
assist in the development of a good base of ice for the season. Once rinks are established
and regular skating begins, daily cleaning and flooding is completed during theregular
p g
work day. This is typically a three to four person crew: one sweep person to the rinks
p p
with a Toro broom, 1-2 persons to shovel or blow the snow over the boards and one
person using the tanker truck to flood. Rink maintenance takes the crew approximately 5
Y
hours each day depending on snow and use.
Other broader areas accounted for in the Parks area include:
• Maintenance of the summer athletic fields and courts - 830 hours
• General turf maintenance to include plowing- 635 hours
• wilding and structure repair, trash pickup, and cleaning - 590 hours,
• Forestry related issues - 340 hours(90 hours of which are for our Buckthorn
Pick up program)
• Garden maintenance- 150 hours.
• watering gardens and trees—225 hours
Time off accounts for the second highest number of hours logged in the past twelve
months. Our maintenance staff earns a combined total of 1,846 hours of Paid Time Off
(PTO)each year. As can be seen in our time tracking report this year ear we had a total
p
of 21485 hours of time off in the past year. Averaged out over the year this causes us to
operate each day with the equivalent of seven employees.
The sanitary sewer division had the third highest hours logged to it in the twelve months
a total of 21344 hours. Our daily inspections of our lift stations equates to approximately
q pp Y
730 hours. To complete the rounds on these daily inspections takes approximately two
hours, assuming no issues need to be corrected.
Other specific tasks related to the Sewer Utility include:
• Sewer cleaning and televising- 600 hours
• I & I mitigation efforts including sump pump inspections- 247 hours
• Repairs, maintenance, and alarm response at our 14 lift stations - 800 hours
The staff person that completes our daily lift station checks also responds to all Gopher
State One Call Requests. These are the requests we receive daily to locate and mark our
underground utilities. This is done to prevent damage to our utilities b contractors and
g Y
residents. Each request for a locate takes between fifteen and thirty minutes to complete.
In the past year we responded to 1,600 requests for locates. This is an a.verag e of six
locates per day throughout the year. November to March we averaged approximately 50
g pp Y
per month,April to October we averaged approximately 190 per month. Our staff logged
521 hours for locates in the past year. This person also completes any other special
