ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL-July 13, 2009 30
Mr. Ken Nielson, representing AT&T, stated that the tower would be
approximately two to two and a half feet wide.
Councilmember Grant asked for clarification on what packet of information
contained the letter from AT&T referencing the alternative sites.
City Planner Beekman stated that it was provided to Council this morning.
Councilmember Grant stated that other options were also requested.
Councilmember Holmes stated that this information was contained in the letter
from AT&T.
Councilmember Holden stated that the alternatives listed by AT&T were all
external. She asked if there had been any internal solutions looked at by AT&T.
Councilmember Grant stated that this was not an alternative that AT&T had
addressed in their letter.
Councilmember Holmes clarified that this was a cell phone tower.
Mr. Nielson stated that this was correct.
Councilmember Holmes stated that the proposal was for a different looking tower.
Mr. Nielson clarified that the project being proposed was for a tower that was more -
sleek and stealthy compared to the more traditional antennae.
Councilmember Holmes asked why this was not placed on the water tower. She
asked why this would not provide acceptable in-building coverage.
Mr. Nielson provided a contour map to the Council to better explain the area and
the type of coverage that they would need to provide in order to meet the needs of
Bethel University.
Councilmember Holden asked why the tower was proposed to be so tall.
Mr. Nielson stated that the traditional antennae were 90 to 120 feet high. The
signal from the tower needs to be able to get over the surrounding tree tops.
Councilmember Grant stated that there are no trees in the front of the tower that is
being proposed.
