---,-A- VEN HILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: July 26, 2010 Item 2.B TO: Mayor and City Council Patrick Klaers, City Administrator FROM: Meagan Beekman, City Planner SUBJECT: Arden Hills Library Update Ramsey County Library Board Meeting On July 21 the Ramsey County Library Board met for their regular meeting. On the agenda was a discussion about the concept of moving the Arden Hills Library from its existing location to the New Brighton Community Center. The Library Board hired a consultant to prepare a feasibility report (Attachment A). The report provided a space program and fit plan, a site plan with parking arrangements, and a cost estimate of the build out. The report also analyzed the cost comparison between the estimated build out of the New Brighton site, and an estimate of the costs to renovate the existing building up to a level of service comparable with the New Brighton option. Highlights from the feasibility report were as follows: • Estimated cost of build out of the New Brighton option: $1.2 million • Estimated cost of renovation of existing space (to provide a comparable level of service to a new facility): $1.8 million • A building addition to the existing community center would be required to meet the library's space needs • A parking lot addition of 47 stalls would likely be necessary • HVAC and utility capacity at the community center can be modified to accommodate the library use The Board Members asked for current and proposed operating expenses of the two facilities. Ms. Nemitz apologized for not having this information and said she would provide it at the next Board meeting on August 18, along with an estimate of the operating costs for the Presbyterian Homes option as well.
