Provides technical assistance to City departments on projects and activities as directed by <br />th� City Administrator. <br />Attends all City Council meetings, Economic Development Commission meetings, and <br />other meetings as appropriate. <br />SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES <br />Directly supervises the positions of the City Planner, Building Official, and Building <br />Inspector. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City's policies <br />and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include planning, assigning and directing <br />work; evaluating performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems. <br />Responsibilities also include the ability to effectively recommend recruiting and hiring, <br />recommend rewarding and disciplining employees, recommend promoting, demoting, <br />suspending and discharging of employees. <br />QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS <br />To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty <br />satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, <br />and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals <br />with disabilities to perform the essential functions. <br />EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE <br />Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Public Administration, Business, Management or a related <br />field. Master's Degree preferred. Minimum of 3- 5 years of progressively responsible <br />experience in local government, with a minimum of two (2) years directly involved in <br />community development. Two years of supervisory experience is required. Five or more <br />years of experience preferred. <br />LANGUAGE SKILLS <br />Ability to anticipate and prepare community development recommendations, prepare <br />reports and compose correspondence. Ability to represent the City's interests in <br />negotiations and interactions with developers. Ability to read and interpret documents <br />such as, policies, regulations, ordinances, codes, contracts, procedure manuals, operating <br />and maintenance instructions. Excellent word, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. <br />Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with supervisors, City staff, <br />elected officials, other government agencies, and the general public. Ability to establish <br />and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. <br />
