Presbyterian Homes has been operating senior housing at this location since 1954. They operate under two Conditional Use Permits (CUP), previously called Special Use Permits (SUP), which were approved and amended over the course of the past several decades. The City does not have a record of the earliest approvals; however, the following proposals are known to have been reviewed by the City: Presently Presbyterian Homes has 396 units between the Lakeview Residence, the McKnight Care Center, and the Sutton Place apartments. The McKnight Care Center contains 208 units and Sutton Place has 19 independent senior units. The Lakeview Residence has 169 units; 136 of which are assisted living and 33 are exclusively for memory care. The three parcels on the west side of Lake Johanna Boulevard are comprised of three structures with detached garages, which are comprised of four dwelling units and a commercial use. At the City Council's August 9, 2010, work session, Presbyterian Homes presented a concept for the redevelopment of their site. Since that meeting, Presbyterian Homes has met with the surrounding neighbors in a series of six community meetings. In addition, the applicant presented their concept plan to the Planning Commission at their September 8, 2010, work session. Presbyterian Homes has incorporated a number of comments received from these meetings into their submitted plans; however, there remain concerns from neighboring community members regarding certain aspects of the project.
