BEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: November 29, 2010
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Patrick Klaers, City Administrator
SUBJECT: City Engineer
Background
Over the past few months City Staff has discussed the benefits for having Public Works
Director Terry Maurer also serve as the City Engineer. Some of the benefits include
saving some money by way of reducing Roseville supervisory time, being more involved
in the supervision of the Engineering services, and being able to have Terry be appointed
to various advisory boards as the Arden Hills City Engineer.
The Personnel Committee reviewed this proposal at their November 10 meeting and the
City Council discussed the issue at their November 15 meeting. Please see the attached
email from Deb Bloom, Roseville City Engineer, on this proposal.
If this request is approved by the City Council, a sentence will be added to the Public
Works Director position description.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council approve adding the title and responsibilities of
City Engineer to the Public Works Director position.
