..... At the October 4 meeting, Council approved a General Fund Budget for
1977 of $617,405, up 10.8% from 1976. To finance the general fund budget
and the debt service funds will require a levy of $309,413 - $240,413 of this
is for financing the general fund budget, and $69,000 is for debt service
funds. It is estimated this will result in a mil rate of 9.8, compared to
last year's mil rate of 8.3.
LOCAL CANDIDATES MEETING: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26, 7:30 P.M., VILLAGE HALL.
The Arden Hills League of Women Voters is giving you an opportunity to meet
your Council candidates. Although Mayor Henry Crepeau is running un -opposed
for the Mayor's seat, there is a contest for the two Council seats up for
election this year - five candidates have filed. This competition for a
position on the Council is greater than has been the case in the past, indi-
cating a greater interest in the decision-making level of local government.
Using voter turn -out at the recent primary election as a yardstick, where
1,134 people voted out of 3,173 registered voters, one can see each ballot
will be very important in determining the outcome of our local election. The
LWV and candidates are putting thought and effort into preparing for this
evening, and it is hoped.a good number of citizens will turn out to listen,
ask questions, and evaluate..... Candidates have submitted the following
statements to the Crier, and we hope you will read them, and follow-up by
attending the meeting.....
Henry Crepeau (Incumbent) Mayor, 3517 Siems Court: "It has been a very
rewarding experience serving first as Trustee, then Councilman and now Mayor
of Arden Hills. The -many fine men and women who have served on the various
committees of our city have been the real backbone of our government. In
the many years of legislating we have had dedicated members of the Council
who have made the position of Mayor much easier to function. I hope to con-
tinue to help keep the services to the residents at the highest level poss
ble but still trying to keep City expenditures within reasonable limits in
Bad News Department: Sorry to report that
sometime between 4:30 P.M. on Friday, Sep-
tember 17 and noon on Saturday, September 18
our Bicentennial Flag was stolen from the flag-
pole in front of the Village Hall. You will
;..
recall the flag was a gift from the Coast -to -
Coast Hardware store to the village of Arden
Hills and its residents. The flagpole was
donated by Mayor Henry Crepeau. The thievery
was a shameful act, particularly in this com-
memorative year. It seems futile to hope for
•
its return (or replacement), and sad indeed
to see the empty flagpole.
