City of Centerville
Council Meeting Minutes
February 9, 2011
Ms. Terry Johnson, 1784 Peltier Lake Drive, asked Council to consider taking into account the
property of the individual bee keeper; such as if there were wild areas between the property and
the neighbors, would it be as critical to get the neighbor's pertnission. Ciy Attorney Glaser
referenced point 6 of the ordinance stating `the bee keeper shall maintain the hives and not be a
nuisance to the public'. This would give neighbors some input if the bees were to become a
problem.
Discussion was had as to what would be the appropriate distance from the property line. City
Engineer Statz offered wording such as not requiring abutting property owner's permission if the
hives were 200' from the property line or to some lesser distance if existing topographical features
offered a buffer zone such as; wild areas, a creek, or a forest.
City Attorney Glaser suggested tabling this item until such time additional information can be
obtained from the U of M regarding safe distances for locations of the hive(s).
Motion bv Council Member Paar, seconded bv Council Member Kin to table this item until
the nezt Council meeting.
