_ CITY OF CENTERVILLE
CITY COUNCIL MEETING
AUGUST 26, 1995
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the City Council of the City of Centerville held its
regularly scheduled Council meeting and a Joint Workshop with the Planning and Zoning
Commission to discuss the revised Shoreland Ordinance on Wednesday, August 26, 1998, at City
Hall, 1880 Main Street.
PRESENT: Mayor Tom Wilharber
Council Members: Theresa Brenner
Mary Jo Helmbrecht
Sauna Buckbee
ABSENT: Council Member: Laura Powers
STAFF: Jim March, City Administrator
Ry -Chel Gaustad, City Clerk
Paul Palzer, Public Works Director/Building Official
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Wilharber called the workshop to order at 5:05 p.m.
PUBLIC HEARING
Dave Nyberg opened the discussion on the Shoreland Ordinance and then noted he updated the
Shoreland Ordinance to reflect the Councils wishes. The ordinance was adjusted to change the
setback from the lake to 75' and he changed the allowable height on buildings. He also
recommended sending a copy of the ordinance without any further restrictions, to Rice Creek
Watershed District (RCWD) for its consideration. Mr. James Hoeft - City Attorney, expressed
the City's primary interest is to allow property owners to rebuild an existing house, in the case of
a natural disaster (tornado, fires, flood).
Ms. Broussard- Vickers was not concerned about property owners rebuilding existing houses
within the newly established set backs, but she was concerned about rebuilding sheds, garages and
pools within the established set backs. Ms. Broussard- Vickers did not condone that in the event
of a natural disaster, properties that are on septic "must" connect to the City sewer system.
1
