March 19, 1997
To: Mayor Wilharber and City Council
From: Paul Palzer, Public Works Director/ Building Official
Re: Health/Comp Benefit
Dear Mayor Wilharber and City Council:
1 am making a formal request in regards to the new benefits offered to the employees of
Centerville as approved by the City Council.
As you recall, currently I have an agreement with the City whereby I receive $18.80 per
week towards my family health coverage through my wife's employer. This has been a
mutually beneficial arrangement for the City and myself, resulting in a savings of
$5,000.00 to $8,000.00 to the City over the previous three years.
1 am requesting that the dollar difference between the new $300.00 limit for family
coverage and the current cost of my insurance to the City be applied towards my deferred
compensation account as was approved by the Council. The total benefit would not
exceed the $300.00 per month dollar limit.
This would conform with the intention the Council had in amending this benefit to include
life insurance and deferred compensation up to the $300.00 limit and also the written
agreement I have with the City when l was hired.
I know that the changes Jim has made since his arrival strengthens the dedication of the
employees to the City and promotes a more efficient local government for the Citizens of
Centerville. l thank you for your time and look forward to working with the Council and
staff over the next se ral years of this rapid expansion of Centerville.
Sincer
Pau P Palze
Public Director/ Building Official
