Green Company s,9SH.tMMIKE
CONSULTING ENGINEERS Formarly M5A
Consulting En9 , ,,! : s
October 3, 1997
Fife: 280078m
Mr. Jim March, Administrator
City of Centerville
1880 Main street
Centerville, MN 55038
RE: EAGLE PASS -DRAIN TILE INSPECTION
Dear Mr. March:
At the September 24th council meeting, Couneilmerr, ber Brenner requested a written 'espouse
to an issue that developed during that same afternoon. During the boring of an undrarground
utility crossing under Dupre Read, water was found in the boring pits either side of the road, and
the drain tile was not visible on one side of the read. Workers digging in the area also did not
find the geotextile fabric.
We met with the Contractor to discuss this is ue on Friday, September 25th. On Wednesday,
October 1st, the Contractor completed some test digging to try and locate the drair the and
fabric and determine if the system was working.
Below is a list of the questions Councilmember Brenner asked us to address:
Question: What is the current situation?
The current situation is as follows:
• Test digging was completed last week at the identified area with ;potential
problems.
• The geotextile fabric and drain tale was obserded under t e curb and guff -r.
• The digging showed the water isvels are normal, the the and sand is funAicning,
however, when water was introduced by a hose into the the line, the line
appeared plugged on one side of the road.
After additional exploration, the contractor located and repaired the tile in two
different segments. At one segment, a length of life was missing. The contractor
referenced this in his letter dated October 1997. At another segment. the file
was collapsed. Each problem area was repaired.
• The Contractor has agreed to perform additional testing and corrective rri >asures
to the the system.
CtT -'99'd L :TT L56T- 20 -iDO
