WEEK =N REV = EW
Edition # 29 9 -02 -97 through 9 -5 -97
Building permits issued this period = 1
Building permits issued YTD = 117
* Theresa and I attended the bid openings for the Chauncey
Barett Gardens senior housing project on Tuesday afternoon.
The Anoka County HRA received five proposals. Of the five
proposals, four of the contractors were chosen for interviews.
During the interviews, the contractors were asked questions in
regards to their housing experience, experience with public
agencies, schedule for construction, methods of construction
management and proposed construction costs. The four
contractors that were interviewed were as follows : Frana and
Sons, SB Commercial, Fulco Construction and The Builders, Inc.
The contractors have been narrowed down to Frans, and Sons and
Fulco Construction. If the references are positive, the
contract would be awarded to Frana and Sons.
* A meeting was held with three representatives from Sewall
Gear. This company currently leases 50,000 sq. ft. of
manufacturing space in a building in St. Paul. The company is
looking to build a 100,000 sq. ft. building on ten acres of
land. They are interested in Gerald Rehbein's property. They
currently have 70 employees. They have been in business since
1939. The jobs are all unionized, good paying jobs. They are
a gear manufacturer. The owner lives in North Oaks. They
would like to move out of St. Paul. They seemed very
interested. They are looking at other sites as well. I will
let you know if I hear anymore from them.
* I have seen the site plans for the Holiday convenience store
that is interested in building diagonally from the Corner
Express. I was also informed that they are laying out an "L"
shaped strip mall for that same area. I was also informed
that Gerald Rehbein and C.R. Hackworthy have signed an
agreement to build a 37,000 sq. ft. office/warehouse
speculative building on the site south of Eagle Trucking. I
would not expect construction to begin until next year.
I will ask Greg Hellings for a written response in regards to
what legalities we would encounter for denying a special use
permit for an additional convenience store.
* Greg Hellings will be present 15 minutes prior to the next
Council meeting to meet with the Council in executive session
to discuss the pending litigation against the City.
