<br />., <br /> <br />Centennial Fire District <br /> <br />3) It is your responsibility to maintain exits, means of egress and maintenance of <br />emergency lighting, equipment, etc. <br /> <br />The following sections of the MUFC address the issues you must enforce to comply with <br />the requirements: <br /> <br />ARTICLE 12-NUUNTENANCEOFMffiANS OFEGRESS&EMffiRGENCY <br />ESCAPES <br /> <br />Section 1201.1 Scope. Maintenance of means of egress and emergency <br />escapes in buildings and structures used or intend~d to be used for human <br />occupancy shall be in accordance with Article 12. <br /> <br />A) Section 1203 - Means of Egress Obstructions <br /> <br />Obstructions, including storage, shall not be placed in the required width of a <br />means of egress, except projections as allowed by the Building Code. Means <br />of egress shall not be obstructed in any manner and shall remain free of any <br />material or matter where its presence would obstruct or render the means of <br />egress hazardous. <br /> <br />B) Section 1207-Doors <br /> <br />Section 1207.1 GeneraL Exit doors shall be maintained in accordance with <br />Section 1207. Exit doors shall be maintained in an operable condition. Doors <br />installed as part of required fire assemblies shall be maintained in accordance <br />with Section 1111. <br /> <br />Section 1207.3 Locking Devices (As amended) <br /> <br />Exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any <br />special knowledge or effort. Exit doors shall not be locked, chained, bolted, <br />barred, latched or otherwise rendered unusable. A1llockingdevices shall be <br />of an approved type. <br /> <br />Exception 1: In Group A, Division 3 (Under three hundred occupants with no <br />legitimate stage) Key latching hardware may be used on the main exit when <br />the main exit consists of a single door or pair of doors if there is a readily <br />visible durable sign on or adjacent to the door stating: "This door to remain <br />unlocked during business hours". The sign shall be in letters not less than <br />1 inch high on a contrasting background. When unlocked, the single door or <br />both leaves of a pair of doors must be free to swing without operation of a <br />latching device. The use of this exception may be revoked by the Fire Chief <br />or Building Official for due cause. <br /> <br />Assembly Safety Issues <br />Page 2 of5 <br />
