Repeat Offenders - Ordinance Violations <br /> <br />Council Member Capra indicated that Chief Bennett had discussed at the Fire Steering <br />Committ~ meeting the possibility of raising fees for additional compliance checks for <br />repeat ordinance offenders. <br /> <br />City Attorney Hoeft indicated that the City would need to look at its ordinances and <br />determine what needs to be amended and create an inspection fee schedule that can be <br />modified by resolution rather than amending the ordinance to change the fees. <br /> <br />Council Member Capra indicated there is a recurrent problem with people burning green <br />treated wood and the police go and tell them to put it out but they do it again as there is <br />no real consequence. <br /> <br />Council Member Broussard Vickers indicated the City had discussed using administrative <br />offenses and suggested that be looked into. <br /> <br />City Attorney Hoeft indicated that there is a bit of an issue with. administrative fees <br />because the legislature feels the state is losing revenue to administrative fees so the <br />League of Minnesota Cities and City Administrators are working on .the matter. The <br />concern is that the legislature will restrict what types of offenses the City can use <br />admini strative offenses for and the City will lose even more control. He then said that <br />the recommendation will likely be to limit the administrative offenses to ordinance <br />violations and leave the misdemeanor traffic to the court system and the fees to the state. <br /> <br />Page 6 of9 <br />
