~~~
TO:
Honorable Mayor & City Council Members
Kim Stephan ~
FROM:
SUBJECf: Recommendations from the Economic Development Committee
DATE:
July 18, 1003
The following requests are from the me Meeting Minutes of July 8, 2003.
Council Member Mary Capra made an appearance to discuss the Economic Development Committee's
request for her participation as the City Historian at a booth at the Fete des Lacs Craft Fair and
Business Expo. The committee had asked Council Member Paar to bring forward the idea of a booth
sponsored by the city and manned by representatives from the council and committees. City Council
responded with support for EDC having a booth as a committee, but felt those who could be involved
were already involved in the Festival Committee Member McLean thought it would be a valuable
service to the residents as an information table, to explain different resources available within the city.
Council Member Capra said she would be willing to help, but questioned who could organize this,
especially with only a few weeks to Fete des Lacs. Committee Member McLean asked why this has
not been done before as a city. Committee Member Scheller and Council Member Capra stated they
have both done this in the past as EDC Members and have involved the other committees; it has just
not been done in the last few years.
The committee and council members discussed w~er they wanted to try and organize this or
possibly volunteer in other areas where needed for Fete des Lacs. Ms. Stephan passed on the
Centerville Lion's request for volunteers at the Kids Carnival on Saturday, August 2,2003 from 12:00
to 3:00. It was also discussed whether or not to sell city merchandise. As a committee it was decided
they would still like to put together a booth with city information, display city merchandise and
involve as many of the council and committee members as possible. The city merchandise will be
displayed only, with purchases possible at City Hall. The booth will be set up 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. on
Saturday, August 2, 2003. Committee Member McKlean will contact Greg Keiselhorst of the
Centerville Lions in regards to a booth and whether the fees could be waived for the city. Committee
Member McKlean will also be responsible for setting up the booth. Council Member Capra will write
a memo to the City Administrator requesting council, committee and commission members be notified
and request anyone who is available to participate to stop by the booth or contact Committee Member
McLean. Ms. Stephan and Council Member Capra will put together city information and get it
delivered to the booth. The EDC Members, Council Members Capra and Council Member Parr agreed
to divide the four (4) hours among them to man the booth. Committee Member Rehbine suggested an
umbrella be rented as the tables are set up in the sun and funds be requested not to exceed $100 in the
. event the bootbltable fee is not waived and additional equipment such as tables and/or an umbrella are
rented.
