Massage Establishment, Massage Therapist Licensing & Renewal Fees
At the last meeting, the Mayor requested additional research and that this item be placed back on
the agenda.
Administrator Larson stated that Staff provided a listing of area municipalities' fees for Therapist
licenses. It was noted that some communities charge lower fees than Centerville and some
communities are choosing not to license these types of establishments. Administrator Larson
also stated that several years back, the city had an individual apply for a Therapist License and
the background check reported previous prostitution charges. Without licensing and the
background check, that would not have been apparent. Administrator Larson reported that the
city currently has one licensee providing massage services, she has been licensed for
approximately 3 years and has had no issues with her business.
Following discussion of Council Members, it was determined to address the issue prior to
budgeting and fee discussions for the 2013 renewals.
VIII.
