Parks & Recreation Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />January 4, 2012 <br />Motion was made by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee Member <br />Seeley, to approve the December 7, 2011 meeting minutes as amended. All in favor. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE BUSINESS <br />V. <br /> <br />1. Committee Transcriber <br /> <br />A. Funding was approved by the City Council <br /> <br />B. Position Description ~ this is a part-time position and is estimated to be five <br />(5) to six (6) hours per month. It requires attendance at the monthly meeting, <br />taking necessary notes and producing meeting minutes, following a standard <br />format to ensure compliance with the Minnesota State statutes. <br /> <br />C. Ms. Linda Neudecker was hired as the Committee transcriber. <br /> <br />2. 2012 Parks Plan (A Forecast of 2012 Activities & Expenditures) <br /> <br />The 2012 Parks Plan includes the following: <br />* Goals/Policies/Principles <br />* 2012 Park Objectives <br />* 2012 Park Activities <br />* 2012 Fete des Lacs Events <br />* P&R Volunteer Program <br />* P&R Revenues/Reserves <br />* P & R Discretionary Budget <br /> <br />The Committee discussed several modifications: <br /> <br /> <br />2012 Park Objectives - raise funding of $5,500 to be added to the sand <br />volleyball court line item; add park benches at Trailside Park; and <br />maintenance expenditures associated with park monument markers. <br /> <br /> <br />2012 Park Activities – the necessity of publicity; <br /> <br /> <br />2012 Fete des Lacs – entrance fees, a free registration for a team of 10 or <br />10% discount for a team of 10; <br /> <br /> <br />Volunteer Program – Add notice for volunteers to the Kiosk at Cornerstone <br />Park; <br /> <br /> <br />Revenues/Reserves – discussion was had regarding utilizing the $714 <br />remaining from the donation received in 2011 for costs associated with the <br />2012 Concession Stand; <br /> <br /> <br />Discretionary Budget – removing the Eagle Scout Matching amount of $500 <br />and applying those dollars to the miscellaneous/unallocated amount. <br />Discussion ensued regarding additional funding sources with alternative <br />avenues to be researched. The Committee desired to include information <br />about upcoming events on the municipal water/sewer bills.
