Centerville residents were asked a short series of questions about city taxes and services. First, <br /> their rating of a series of city services was ascertained. Then, the value of city services in terms <br /> of the property taxes paid was evaluated. Finally, residents were asked about their perception of <br /> their city services in comparison with neighboring areas. <br /> City Service Ratings <br /> Respondents were instructed: <br /> I would like to read you a list of a few city services. For <br /> each one, please tell me whether you would rate the qual- <br /> ity of the service as excellent, good, only fair, or poor? <br /> A list of twelve city services was then read: <br /> Police service? <br /> Eighty -eight percent rate police services highly: <br /> EXCELLENT ... 42% <br /> GOOD ... 46% <br /> ONLY FAIR 6% <br /> POOR 1% <br /> DON'T KNOW/REFUSED 4% <br /> Seven percent are more critical. <br /> Ratings peak among: <br /> • homeowners <br /> • those thinking the city is going in the right direction <br /> • those with knowledge about the Mayor and City Council <br /> Fire service? <br /> Eighty -five percent rate the fire service as either "excellent" or "good:" <br /> EXCELLENT 44% <br /> GOOD 41% <br /> ONLY FAIR 2% <br /> 19 <br /> 52 <br />
