01/01/2013 <br /> Scope: This policy will apply to all City Employees using or having access to City - <br /> owned cellular phones. <br /> 23.2 Guidelines <br /> Policy: The following guidelines are established for the use of City -owned cellular <br /> phones: <br /> A) Cellular phones are intended to be used to increase the efficiency and <br /> effectiveness of the services provided by the City of Centerville. As such, <br /> each Employee using a cellular phone during the course of his /her workday <br /> must determine whether such usage is appropriate under the circumstances <br /> existing at the time of the usage. In making such a determination, <br /> Employees must consider the cost of using the cellular phone in comparison <br /> with the cost and practicality of locating a customary telephone service. <br /> B) During work hours personal phone calls will be acceptable in those <br /> circumstances where it is necessary to briefly contact someone concerning <br /> important matters. Calls of this nature shall be as brief as possible and <br /> should be made only when circumstances prevent timely access to customary <br /> telephone services. The City may ask the employee to reimburse for such <br /> personal use minutes if the phone's plan- minutes are exceeded for that <br /> month and those minutes become an additional cost to the City. <br /> C) During non -work hours City Employees having access to assigned City - <br /> owned cellular phones may make reasonable personal phone calls during all <br /> hours. Employees having 24 -hour access to City -owned cellular phones and <br /> who also use the phone for personal reasons will reimburse the City for all <br /> personal phone calls, to the extent that the calls exceed the maximum <br /> allowable air time. <br /> D) City Employees who take home a City -owned phone will agree to be <br /> accessible for City business when necessary and practical after regular work <br /> hours. <br /> E) All cellular phones shall remain the property of the City and shall be returned <br /> to the City upon the termination of employment or if the cellular phone is no <br /> longer necessary for work - related purposes. Any inappropriate use of <br /> phones may subject to the Employee to disciplinary action. Any additional <br /> charges will be paid by the Employee. <br /> 24. CARRYING OF FIREARMS <br /> 24.1 Policy <br /> The City Of Centerville establishes a policy prohibiting the carrying of firearms while <br /> acting in the course and scope of employment for the City.
