City of Centerville
Parks&Recreation Committee
October 7,2015
VI. UPDATES
1. Council Updates—Council Member Steve King
No Update
2. Recognition of Volunteer Pat Branch
Former P & R Committee Member/Chairperson Pat Branch was honored at the
City Council meeting on September 23, 2015 with a resolution recognizing him for
his years of dedicated public service from December 26, 2007 through July 26,
2015.
3. Movie in the Park—Recap
Committee Member Peterson reported this annual event was held on Saturday,
September 12, 2015 with a good turnout for the showing of The Lego Movie. The
projector needs to be adjusted prior to its use in 2016 as the color was off a bit.
The concessions were moved to the pavilion. Advertising in the Friday Flash
should be sent weekly to be ensured that it is contained in each weekly issue prior
to the event; also discussed setting up "sandwich boards". For larger signs it was
suggested to request the use of the printer at the Hugo City Offices for large format
printing. The Committee felt that the current coffee maker for heating water for
the hot chocolate needed to be replaced with a newer, larger model.
Motion was made by Committee Member Peterson, seconded by Committee
Member Waeghe to purchase a replacement coffee maker (approximately 40
cup capacity) at a cost of up to$125. All in favor.Motion carried.
VII. OTHER/ON-GOING
1. Safety Bases for softball fields
An estimate was received of$199.98 for 2 double Is' base safety (orange) bases
and $149.98 for 2 single safety bases. The Lions will purchase those items.
2. Popcorn Machine Purchase
The current popcorn machine does not adequately provide enough popcorn for the
P & R sponsored events. After discussion and review of several models, the
committee decided to purchase a larger capacity, commercial grade popcorn
machine with an "old maid" collector.
Motion was made by Committee Member Waeghe, seconded by Committee
Member Peterson to purchase a commercial grade popcorn machine at a cost
of up to$600. All in favor.Motion carried.
