• New irrigation system with rain sensors on TH61
Future Opportunities (identified at the first meeting in June)
• Greater linkages with energy and water conservation efforts. Use their model with
water conservation.
• State/Met Council provide assistance regarding public data and water use information
that is collected
• Programs that promote rewards O are more effective than punishments O
• Examine the "Race 2 Reduce" results and how to apply the techniques in other areas.
• There is a huge opportunity in water reuse, especially for ball fields and golf courses
• The Interagency Water Reuse Group is working with the Plumbing Board to get the
plumbing codes revised
• Look at how communities charge for water—there may be opportunities to fund rebate
and education programs.
• Bring in watershed district into credits and reuse discussion
• Potential for state revolving fund
• Infrastructure efficiency grant funding opportunities
• Grants for education
• Speakers for public forums
• Materials that explain why the 17% reduction is needed
• More information about"gray water" use and its potential in NE metro.
• Funding for replacing exiting appliances with more efficient products is important
• Group discussions are very beneficial
• Enforcement of requirements/procedures
• Great idea on forming education/outreach groups. Met Council would love to support
• Good idea to work with community groups to jointly prepare/support water supply plan
completion. The Met Council would like to be integrally involved (just reinforcing,
hoping to maximize)
• Identify system loading 1) Irrigation; 2) Residential/commercial use. Then concentrate
on the specific area that is causing high use.
• Combine educational components with stormwater MS4 education for efficiency and
effectiveness.
• Water Reuse: Treating wastewater to use for irrigation, help with reducing peak water
demand, benefit to the waste water treatment facility, help reduce expansion, etc. at
the WWTF. This is costly though, but should continue to be something that is explored.
• The City of Lexington has not been doing any type of water conservation efforts outside
of the normal efforts. We are working on improving that in the future. We have
implemented conservation rates and rain gardens. Overall, we need to do better.
7
