Staff provided the information requested.

Administrator Ericson also stated that he has been attending the SWATT recycling meetings on a
regular basis. He is working with other cities to establish innovative ways to increase the City’s
recycling tonnage and anticipates a growth in the tonnage due to collaborative efforts similar to
last years’ fall multi-city recycling event. Administrator Ericson reported that the goal of 381
tons for 2016 is provided by Anoka County and he would be happy to obtain how that number is
derived. Administrator Ericson also reported that he is aggressively working with Waste
Management to increase recycling numbers through mailings and additional events.
Council Member King stated that the decrease could be associated with individuals being more
consciences when making purchases and being more health oriented. Discussion also ensued
regarding the recyclable markets, tainted items and unrecoverable materials, innovative programs
being offered, not meeting goal and how it affects funding and avenues for additional funding.
Motion by Council Member Paar, seconded by Council Member Love to Approve the 2016
Agreement for Residential Recycling Program (Anoka County).
