City of Centerville <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />October 12, 2016 <br />Motion by Council Member Love, seconded by Council Member King to Approve <br />Minnesota/Centerville Manufacturing Week Proclamation as presented. All in favor. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />IX. COUNCIL & ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCEMENT <br /> <br />Mayor Wilharber suggested that due to the necessity of canvassing the election results for local <br />offices within the required timeframe of November 11 through November 18 the Council may <br />desire to reschedule their regularly scheduled meeting on November 9, 2016. He also suggested <br />cancelling the November 23, 2016 regularly scheduled meeting due to the observance of <br />Thanksgiving as in years past. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Love, seconded by Council Member Paar to Reschedule the <br />Regularly Scheduled Meeting of November 9 to November 16, 2016. All in favor. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br /> <br />1.Administrator Ericson <br /> <br />a.Fire Prevention Week (October 9-15, 2016) <br /> <br />Administrator Ericson reported that on behalf of the Centennial Fire District they would like to <br />remind individuals to check the age of both their smoke and CO detectors and replace the <br />2 <br />batteries. Mayor Wilharber stated that the Fire District is providing Free Home Safety Survies <br />to those that desire and arrange a date and time by contacting 651-792-7900. He stated that they <br />will check resident’s smoke and CO detectors to ensure they are operable, need replacement <br />2 <br />(smoke detectors should be replaced every ten (10) years and CO detectors every six (6) years) <br />2 <br />and make other helpful suggestions. <br /> <br />Council Member Love stated that he covered the Planning & Zoning meeting earlier and <br />reminded citizens of the League of Women Voters upcoming Candidate Forum on Monday <br />evening October 10, 2016 at City Hall commencing at 6:30 in Chambers and that North Metro <br />TV’s website has information on all candidates. <br /> <br />Council Member Paar stated that the Centennial Fire District is roughly three quarters of the way <br />through the year and is $40,000 short. He stated that this is the first year without the City of <br />Lino Lakes and large payouts to them have been made for the split of assets. He reported that <br />the District has approximately $115,000 in reserves and $220,000 in capital equipment funds. <br />The District anticipates approximately an overall deficit of $150,000. He briefly discussed the <br />purchase of the new truck with funds being expended from the capital equipment funds, the need <br />for replacement of SCBA equipment, revenue opportunities, firefighter call percentages and <br />opportunities to serve the community to gain percentages if calls are missed, emergency calls <br />and how they were lowered and then increased, stated that three firefighters quit the department <br />but staffing levels are adequate. Council Member Paar also stated that the District is looking at <br />funding (loan or financing) rather than depleting reserves for funding and additional <br />collaborative efforts for 2017. <br /> <br />Page 5 of 6 <br /> <br /> <br />
