City of Centerville Council Meeting Minutes January 25, 2017 are slated north of the City along CSAH54/20u' Avenue North with construction in the Spring. noted that Xcel Energy would be completing replacement of street lighting bulbs to LED bulbs excet. _ within the downtown area due to the bulbs being of a different type. He reported that this would save the City approximately $500/year in lighting expenditures and that Xcel Energy was completing the replacement for free. Mayor Paar reported that half of the City's budget goes directly for public services (Fire and Police). He stated that the Fire District just purchased a new Engine for Station #3 which was delivered on Tuesday. He also stated that there would be a dedication ceremony for the new truck on February 6, 2017 at Station 3 commencing at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Paar stated that Chief Lundstrom is very progressive and considering alternative funding from EMT training to area communities. Mayor Paar reported that the Centennial Police Department completed 2016 with being $50,000 under budget, just finished union negotiations with the patrol officers and sergeants for their employment contracts and would be utilizing body cameras in 2017. Mayor Paar also stated that several current businesses have either expanded, completed improvement projects or moved to Centerville like CenterMart/Minnco, Laurie's School of Dance and Wholesome Health. Mayor Paar reported that the Staff has been working with the property owner of 7281 Main Street (Waterworks) to remove the building. Mayor Paar stated that with the hiring of Administrator Ericson and his economic backgroun, improvements and relationships have been made to help market the City. He stated that the Council is eager to bring new ideas such as an Economic Development Authority for businesses, "Taste of Centerville" event, banners for the downtown lighting and continuing reports similar to this State of the City Report on an annual basis. Mayor Paar extended his appreciation to all Staff, Committee/Commissions and public service entities for providing their services assist Centerville in being the best it can be. X1. COUNCIL & ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCEMENT 1. Administrator Ericson Mayor Paar reported that he and Administrator Ericson recently attended a Legislative Breakfast regarding the Centennial School District and legislature in progress for funding. He stated that Senator Roger Chamberlain, State Representatives Nolan West and Linda Runbeck were also present. Mayor Paar explained that due to the Schools diminished commercial tax base, the amount of funding received is limited due to the current formula used to calculate the funding. He also stated that with the Senator and Representatives involved that he believed changes would be forthcoming. Mayor Paar reported that he has spoken with the Building Official and a mailing would be forwarded to residents along with their utility bills regarding sump pump discharge into a floor drain or laundry, Page 4 of 5 14
