L We were able to estimate the effect the change(s) in ISO class would have on the LMCIT
property premiums for the Centennial Fire District, the City of Centerville, and the City of Circle
Pines. For all three, changing from class 5 to class 4 results in an estimated 11% premium
decrease. And for all three, changing from class 5 to class 6 results in an estimated 12%
increase. In dollar terms:
ii.
iii. I recalled this article from a few years ago, when the City of Carver had a fire protection class
change. The reported quoted a local agent who indicated:
iv. "Going from [Class] 6 to a 4 is not going to change anything [in insurance premiums]," said
Marvin Bjugan, a principal of Carver Insurance Group, an independent insurance agency at 212
Broadway in Carver. "The reality is anything 1-6 and often times 1-7 all get the same rate,"
Bjugan said during an interview."
v. httr)://www.swnewsmedia.com/chaska herald/news/carver-s-fire-service-ratine-
improves/article 561eda0e-176a-501f-a171-Ofc42f72d5f7.html
4. Fire Sprinklers are located, high on a ceiling to spray down on a fire cooling the heated air, in a
defensive fire you want to spray down on the fire since it will vent through the roof. Defensive
firefighting requires an aerial ladder since interior attack on the fire cannot be accomplished due to
roof collapse. Using a master stream from an aerial puts >1000 gpm of water on the fire, this equals 4
handlines.
estimated
estimated
Member
property premium
premium at
premium at
(protection class 5)
protection class 4
protection class 6
Centennial Fire District
$344
$308
$384
City of Centerville
$16,541
$14,790
$18,487
City of Circle Pines
$18,201
$16,274
$20,342
iii.
