A I ex anr
a
irking to end domestic H o u s e
and sexual violence.
February 10, 2017
Mayor Thomas Wilharber
1880 Main St
Centerville, MN 55038
Dear Mayor Thomas Wilharber,
Phone: 763-780-2332
24 -Hour Crisis line/TTY: 763-780-2330
Fax: 763-780-9696
www.AlexandraHouse.org
P.O. Box 490039
Blaine, MN 55449-0039
We know that domestic and sexual violence is endemic in our communities and our state. We also know that
domestic and sexual violence do not exist in silos in our communities. We know that many forms of injustice
and violence intersect with each other to make our communities unsafe. The devastating effects of economic
violence ripple throughout our state, which leave our neighbors struggling to make ends meet.
For a number of years, six statewide coalitions, encompassing over 80 domestic violence organizations
statewide, dedicated to ending sexual and domestic violence, have organized the 'Action Day to End
Violence Against Women' at the Capitol. Historically, this event has been a collective effort to raise
awareness about the devastating impact of violence against women in Minnesota and included meetings
with legislators and a noon rally.
This year is different. As a collective, we are trying a different approach. The various coalitions and domestic
and sexual violence organizations are each organizing an event within their own community and asking their
cities and counties to declare March 7, 2017, A Day of Action to End Domestic Violence.
By locally proclaiming March 7, 2017, A Day of Action to End Domestic Violence, Anoka County shows its
recognition of both the gravity of the problem and the importance of the ongoing work to create a violence -
free community in the region. The county's proclamation will add to the chorus of voices across the state
insisting that women, men, and children all have a right to seek peace and safety in their lives.
Please contact our Communications Marketing Director, Tina Bronson at 763-656-1363 or
tbronson(&alexandrahouse.org if you have any questions regarding this request. Also enclosed for your
reference is a sample you may wish to use to compose your proclamation. Thank you for your consideration
and support of this important cause.
Sincerely,
ah(,r
Connie Moore
Executive Director
Enclosure
Cc: Mike Ericson
19
