City of Centerville <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />January 25, 2017 <br />noted that Xcel Energy would be completing replacement of street lighting bulbs to LED bulbs except <br />within the downtown area due to the bulbs being of a different type. He reported that this would save <br />the City approximately $500/year in lighting expenditures and that Xcel Energy was completing the <br />replacement for free. <br />Mayor Paar reported that half of the City's budget goes directly for public services (Fire and Police). <br />He stated that the Fire District just purchased a new Engine for Station 43 which was delivered on <br />Tuesday. He also stated that there would be a dedication ceremony for the new truck on February 6, <br />2017 at Station 3 commencing at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Paar stated that Chief Lundstrom is very <br />progressive and considering alternative funding from EMT training to area communities. <br />Mayor Paar reported that the Centennial Police Department completed 2016 with being $50,000 <br />under budget, just finished union negotiations with the patrol officers and sergeants for their <br />employment contracts and would be utilizing body cameras in 2017. <br />Mayor Paar also stated that several current businesses have either expanded, completed improvement <br />projects or moved to Centerville like CenterMart/Minnco, Laurie's School of Dance and Wholesome <br />Health. <br />Mayor Paar reported that the Staff has been working with the property owner of 7281 Main Street <br />(Waterworks) to remove the building. <br />Mayor Paar stated that with the hiring of Administrator Ericson and his economic background, <br />improvements and relationships have been made to help market the City. He stated that the Council <br />is eager to bring new ideas such as an Economic Development Authority for businesses, "Taste of <br />Centerville" event, banners for the downtown lighting and continuing reports similar to this State of <br />the City Report on an annual basis. <br />Mayor Paar extended his appreciation to all Staff, Committee/Commissions and public service <br />entities for providing their services assist Centerville in being the best it can be. <br />X1. COUNCIL & ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCEMENT <br />1. Administrator Ericson <br />Mayor Paar reported that he and Administrator Ericson recently attended a Legislative Breakfast <br />regarding the Centennial School District and legislature in progress for funding. He stated that <br />Senator Roger Chamberlain, State Representatives Nolan West and Linda Runbeck were also present. <br />Mayor Paar explained that due to the Schools diminished commercial tax base, the amount of funding <br />received is limited due to the current formula used to calculate the funding. He also stated that with <br />the Senator and Representatives involved that he believed changes would be forthcoming. <br />Mayor Paar reported that he has spoken with the Building Official and a mailing would be forwarded <br />to residents along with their utility bills regarding sump pump discharge into a floor drain or laundry <br />tub is a violation of City Code. Mayor Paar also gave credit to the Public Works Department for a <br />recent watermain break that occurred on last weekend. <br />Page 4 of 5 <br />
