City of Centerville <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br />May 25, 2017 <br />Council Member Montain stated that he currently likes the electronic format, is <br />concerned about monthly copier fees, having instant access for past packets, internet and <br />notes. He stated that it would need to be an all or nothing switch over to make economic <br />sense for the City to incur these expenditures. <br />Council Member Koski stated that $80 each seems to be extremely inexpensive and <br />would like to see options, storage, other manufacturers, longevity, a demonstration of use <br />and overall use of the product prior to purchase. Council Member Love concurred. <br />Council Member King stated that he has never utilized one before and would need <br />training before he felt comfortable using the device. He was also concerned about <br />viruses and potential for something of better quality. <br />Council Member Montain questioned whether he could contact the City of Circle Pines to <br />ascertain a demonstration of their tablets and he was encouraged to contact the City <br />Administrator. <br />Attorney Glaser stated that if a Council Member were to utilize the device for personal <br />data or retrieving personal data and that data would become public information. Attorney <br />Glaser also advised that policies should be in place for these types of devices being <br />offered. <br />Motion by Council Member Montain, seconded by Council Member Love to Table <br />This Item Until Next Council Meeting Allowing Members to Complete Additional <br />Research. All in Favor. Motion carried. <br />Mayor Paar encouraged members to complete desired research on their own via Best <br />Buy, another vendor, Youtube or by reaching out to Council Members of the City of <br />Circle Pines or their Administrator. <br />2. HueLife Proposal for Employee Engagement/Organizational Review <br />Mayor Paar stated that Administrator Ericson requested that the item be placed on the <br />agenda for discussion. He stated that Administrator Ericson believes that this was to <br />occur closer to his hiring and is contained in the 2017 City Focus Goals. Mayor Paar <br />stated that both the Administrator and Mr. Fursman believe that the proposal would <br />review the current operating environment and be a good tool to build upon. <br />City Attorney Glaser stated that upon the request of the Mayor, he presented Council <br />with a proposal for organizing a Personnel Committee. He stated that the language was <br />taken from the City of Lexington's Code and recommended that it be utilized to provide <br />formal evaluations for Department Heads and the City Administrator along with <br />negotiating union contracts. He stated that the Committee would not be involved in the <br />day-to-day operations of the City and its suggested make up would be of two (2) Council <br />Members and himself allowing recommendations to be brought to the full Council.
