Ptll'b & llecretltioft Committee's PtlI'tit:iDtItit ill FrtIZIm F_ .. Lta:s 1(J(J$

Ms. Stephan l1formed the cummittee that the Economic Development Committee would like the Parks
& Recreation Cotmntttee's participotion in Frozen, Fete des Lacs once again this yeor and request a
committee member attend the next scheduled EDC 'ineeting to discuss the event and what activities the
Parks & Recreation Committee would be willing to be involved with. During the prior two Frozen
Fete des Lacs, the EDC rented a horse drawn hayrit:k to provide rides to citizens during the Friday
Night SlroIe Night at Laurie LaMotte Memorlal Park at which the Parks & Recreation C01IIIIIittee
volunteered their time. as weN as supplying hot chocolate, popcorn and a borfire. Although this was a
success, there was not ice availflble on the rink for sIrDting due to the warm te1IIperatures.
Chairperson Peterson, as Public WorkY Stqff, stated there is rarely ice on the rink at that time
inFebruary. The EDC had previously discussed moving the Friday night event to the A:noka County
Chain of Lakes Regional Park and having the sIrDting on Centerville Lake. The committee discussed
whether they would like to move the event to the county park and what that would involve. Vice-
Chairperson Smith, EDC had contacted the A:noka County Parks and Way told the event could be held
at the park. Chairperson Peterson stated plowing a Jtutit'lf rink would be possible since Public Works
would be plowing the track for the CQ1' races. lights would need to be rented to light the ice rink.
Public Worb has a generator that could be used. A satellite would need to be ploced at the park as
the restroom facilities are not availflble during the winter months.

The Committee discussed whether the Centerville Lions would be involved in Frozen Fete des lAcs.
Committee Member Pei!, as a representative of the Lions stated the Lions are having their A.nnual
Fishing Contest the weekend prior to Frozen Fete des Lacs. EDC was aware of this when they set the
dole of Frozen Fete des Lacs as it had to be decided whether to coincide with the Lion's Fishing
Contest or the IntemIltional Car Races on Ice and neither the Lions nor the Ice Racers could alter the
weekend their respective events were scheduled EDC would like the Lions to have their concession
trailer available for Saturday's events, lmt Ms. Peil soid perhops the Parb & Recreation C~
could use the trailer on Friday night at the County park for hot chocolate and popcorn. Committee
Member Peil will check on this and report back to the Committee.

Chairperson Peterson requested that Ms. Stephan ask the EDC to coordinate the plowing of the Anoka
County Chain of Lakes Regional Park with a County representative as there was miscommunication at
the last season's event between Anoka County's plows and the City of Centerville's plows. He also
asked to make sure the bonfire site was specified by the County. The Parks & Recreation Committee
will supply the hot chocolate, popcorn, firewood and secure the burning permit. It was suggested that
lights be rented to ilbJminate the ice rink and perhaps hay bales be used around the rink to sit on or
change skates.
