City of Centerville <br /> Council Meeting Minutes <br /> February 14,2018 <br /> expansion of existing homes associated with the Downtown Redevelopment Project which is no <br /> longer viable, possibility of rezoning along Main Street for Mixed Use and development along <br /> 20th and 20 Avenues. <br /> Mr. Maas stated that Met. Council identified slightly over 100 acres that could be developed <br /> within the community with their forecast of an additional 150 residences. Lengthy discussion <br /> ensued regarding densities (low, medium and higher densities), affordable housing and the <br /> underlining requirement of satisfying Met Council's estimates but planning for growth above <br /> what they are planning. Mr. Maas stated that the City of Centerville is scored lower than other <br /> communities due to lack of mass transit and service availability. Mr. Maas also stated that Met. <br /> Council does not believe that the City of Centerville will achieve its buildout until sometime <br /> after 2040. He also stated that the City of Centerville is on the suburban edge and has a <br /> designation of a 3 which is the same designation of Lino Lakes. He reported that the City of <br /> Hugo has a duel designation and that they are very unique. <br /> Administrator Statz stated that the City has the ability to provide alternative housing types or <br /> more of what the market is calling for when it is calling for it. Mayor Paar stated that <br /> Superintendent Deitz has stated that the School District is in demand by property owners and is <br /> attracting new development within the district. <br /> Mayor Paar requested that Council review the information provided, contact staff with questions <br /> or recommendations and the plan would again appear before them for review prior to adoption. <br /> Mayor Paar commended WSB, the Planning & Zoning Commission and staff for working <br /> diligently on the two sections. <br /> Mr. Maas stated that he would be meeting with the Parks & Recreation Committee in March to <br /> discuss parks and trails. Mr. Maas reviewed the timeline for the 2040 Comprehensive Plan and <br /> its submittal to RCWD in June and Met. Council in December. <br /> IX. NEW BUSINESS <br /> 1. None. <br /> X. COUNCIL/ADMINISTRATOR ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> 1. Monthly Administrator's Report <br /> Administrator Statz stated that he had not had an opportunity to complete his report prior to the <br /> meeting so he would provide Council with a brief update. He stated that Staff has been working <br /> with neighboring communities regarding arranging for a more robust social media presence, took <br /> ownership of a google map site, toured the City of Blaine Council Chambers to review new cable <br /> equipment and has spoken with several vendors regarding the City's needs for taking advantage <br /> of the HD aspects of the cable system, held monthly staff meetings, that the Local Water Plan <br /> would be forwarded to Council again for approval and submission in June, that Ruf ridge- <br /> Johnson issues would be discussed during the closed session, that a meeting was held with Mr. <br /> Rich DeFoe and a developer regarding the construction of high-end, detached townhomes on the <br /> Page 4 of 7 <br />
