Parks and Recreation Mayor Swedberg and City Council Members appeared at February's Parks and Recreation meeting. Mayor Swedberg requested that Parks and Rec. partner with neighboring communities and set up pr0- grams for the yoUth during the summer months. He stated that people would pay for programs for their kids and that we (the City) need to show people that their money is being used in many ways and that things could be done for little money. Swedberg also sugested that trails don't necessarily need to be paved and maybe money could be saved by .. ",roviding trails using compacted gravel e encouraged that small projects need :,;0 be accomplished. Before departing from the meeting, Swedberg requested that Parks and Rec., "Be thorough, don't hesitate and get things done." Parks and Rec. have purchased uni- form jackets to identify committee mem- bers and skating rink attendants. The committee members paid for their own jackets. Discussions have begun regarding Earth Day on April 21 and plans are un- derway to generate involvement within Centerville in addition to the County's activities held at Wargo Nature Center. Park and Rec. meetings are scheduled the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.rn. at City Hall and open to the public. Planning and Zoning The Planning and Zoning Commis- sion continues to work out the details of Ordinance #39 regarding Signs. Mayor Swedberg and some Council Members were present to speak. Currently there is one vacancy on P8cZ. Please submit a letter of interest to City Hall to be considered for this opening. Planning and Zoning meetings are scheduled on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.rn. at City Hall and are open to the public. Fete des Lacs The Fete des Lacs Committee is busy preparing for the upcoming festival scheduled for August 2, 3, and 4, 200 I. Plans are underway for a larger parade featuring more marching bands; a 64 team MRA regional softball tournament attracting three times as many softball players than what we had last year and a street dance featuring "The Originals".
