The Anoka County Parks and Reereation Department offers a variety of <br />outdoor activities for people of all ages. Whether you are looking for a quiet cross- <br />country ski trail or group ski event, the Anoka County Park System-has the winter - <br />activity for you. <br />Several parks in Anoka county have cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. <br />For easy, moderate, and difficult trails, try Bunker Hills Regional Park in Coon <br />. Rapids. Bunker Hills has over 20 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails, <br />many of which 'provide both classic and skate skiirig. Skis, boots and poles are <br />availab1efor rent at the warming station at the Bunker Hills golf comse clubhouse. <br />Beginner skiers can enjoy the beauty and serenity of Chomonix Ski Trails, <br />located.in Lino Lakes within Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve. <br />Chomonix haS over eight kilometers of easy to moderate, groomed cross-country <br />ski trailS. Rental equipnient is also available at Chomonix Golf Course club- <br />house., On Saturday, January 30th at 6:00 pm, Chomonix is offering a program <br />called "Ski by the Light of the Moon." Participants have a chance to meet o~ <br />skiers and enjoy an evening of music, refreshments aDd skiing. For information <br />about this program call (651) 429-8007 or (651) 482-8484. <br />Skiers looking forward for a short uncrowded trail might try the Wargo <br />N~ Center, also located in Lino Lakes. After skiing, visit the nature center to <br />view the many cultural and natural exhibits. For information about the Wargo <br />.Nature Center trail please call (651) 429':'8007. <br />Skiers. of all abilities will enjoy the trails located at Coon Rapids Dam <br />Regional Park. Just a short jaunt from anywhere in southern Anoka County, this <br />trail provides excellent wintery views of the Mississippi River. The groomed trail <br />also winds through forest and prairie environments iit the northern section of the <br />park. While in the park take a few minutes to enjoy the new state-of-the-art inter- <br />pretive exhibits at the East Vwtor Center. <br />If you are looking for a brand new plaCe to ski, try the ~ River Ceiltral <br />Regional Park ski trails, located in the northeastern section of the City of Ramsey. <br />This park boasts two exciting 8r00med. ski trail loops through this newly devel- <br />oped regional park. The trail loops are .two.kilometers long and are rated easy to <br />moderate (Note: there is no warming facility at tJUs location). This trail also will <br />becopenfor"Skijouring" oppotttanities on Sundayaftemoons from 2:00pm until <br />sunset. To help ~ people to this dog-s1edlcross-country sid hybrid sport, <br />the parks and recreation department will be hosting a sldjouring exhibition 1ater <br />this winter. - <br />All skiers will need a 1999 MDesota Ski Pass. This pass is required for all. <br />:groomed ski trails in Anolca County and is also valid on most state sid trails.
