Centerville 2040 <br /> P [T, <br /> The City of Centerville has a history of actively planning for the future. The <br /> City's last plan was adopted in 2008. However, in 2006, Centerville underwent <br /> a rigorous planning process to develop the Downtown Master Plan and <br /> Development Guidelines. Below are brief summaries of these documents. <br /> 2008 Comprehensive Plan <br /> With the development of the 2008 plan, the City Council established a public <br /> participation process designed to include a wide variety of stakeholders <br /> including business owners, City officials and concerned citizens. At a town <br /> meeting, issues were identified that related to the future growth of the City: <br /> • Expand business and employment opportunities <br /> • Maintain low crime rate <br /> • Expand diversity of housing, including apartments, townhouses, senior <br /> housing and rental housing <br /> • Maintain small town atmosphere/community identity <br /> • Increases in taxes to accommodate growth are feared <br /> The plan was adopted by the City Council and reviewed by the Metropolitan <br /> Council. <br /> 2006 Downtown Master Plan & Redevelopment Guidelines <br /> In 2005 the City of Centerville hired Damon Farber Associates to lead a <br /> community task force to prepare a master plan, design guidelines and zoning <br /> amendments for downtown Centerville. The development of the master plan <br /> was accompanied by a market study completed in 2005 which helped define <br /> the quality and quantity of retail and housing which could be sustained in <br /> downtown Centerville. The purpose of the Master Plan & Development <br /> Guidelines was to establish an appropriate framework for future <br /> redevelopment of downtown as a vibrant Mixed-Use destination, to <br /> incorporate: <br /> An overall vision for redevelopment of the area, including the pattern, <br /> form and character of new development and open space in the <br /> interest of creating a cohesive traditional mixed-use downtown. <br /> Chapter 1 Page 9 <br />
