When you f~1 y~rseIf losing <br />control there is somewhere you can <br />turn. <br /> <br />- A Crisis rq-ursety provides:.c~ - ____n <br /> <br />- Short TermSa1e Care for Children. <br /> <br />- Crisis Counseling and SUpport for <br />Parents. <br /> <br />- Voluntary and Confidential Service. <br /> <br />- 24-Hour Crisis Helpline. <br /> <br />- No Charge for Child Care. <br /> <br />. Transportation Provided as Needed. <br /> <br />- Experienced, Trained and Caring <br />staff and Volunteers. <br /> <br />Children's Home Crisis NUrsery is <br />available to residents of Anoka, <br />Dakota, RamseyandWashlns)ton <br />Counties. Children thrOugh age 12 <br />can be provided for in the Counties <br />mentioned above. <br /> <br />What is a Crisis? <br /> <br />A crisis may be many things: sudden <br />Illness, family conflid, housing <br />problems, unemployment, family <br />violence. Even positive things such <br />as a new job or a new baby can <br />cause tension. Every person's ability <br />to deal with stress and change varies, <br />as does the circumstances of daily <br />life. Stress also affeds children. <br />The parent-child relationship may <br />become tense and unpredldable. A <br />Crisis Nursery can help relieve this <br />stress for both children and aduns. <br /> <br />Children's Home Society <br /> <br />The Crisis Nursery is one of ten <br />programs of Children's Home Society <br />of Minnesota. Children's Home <br /> <br />Society has been helping children <br />and their families since 1889. "It is <br />lVIinnesota'~ only statewkle, non- <br />sectarian, non-profit child and family <br />social service agency. The SOciety is <br />committed to respect those Whom it <br />serves as persons of dignity and <br />worth regardless of race, sex, age, <br />creed or social status. Since opening <br />the first Nursery in December 1985. <br />Crisis Nurseries has served over <br />2800 children. Since the July, 1991, <br />opening of the Anoka Crisis Nursery, <br />they" have served over 700 children. <br /> <br />What to do in a Crisis <br /> <br />Parents ortegal guardians can call <br />the 24 hOur Crisis Helpline. .. . . <br />78S-9222.-'Jheywill-provide--- <br />assistance to-you and safe,loving <br />care for your children. <br /> <br />************* <br /> <br />Make a Difference <br /> <br />for a Child <br /> <br />Being a parent Is a difficult job and <br />one tor which we receive little <br />training. stress grows and often no <br />supports are available. Children are <br />at risk because of the- parent's. - <br />difficulties. <br /> <br />Parent Aide Programs are a proven <br />method of prevention of abuse and <br />neglect. Parent Aides are trained <br />volunteers who focus on the parent <br />knowing that if the parent is helped, <br />the child will benefit. The support <br />received from a Parent Aide can be <br />crucial in helping prevent <br />occUrrences. of child abuse or <br />negled. <br /> <br />Parent Aide Volunteers help by <br />listening, supporting parents In <br />exploring new roles, sharing child <br />rearing tips or finding community <br />supports. Just one visit each week <br />can make a difference for a child and <br />fora family. <br /> <br />Volunteer Aides are needed. <br />Training is provided. Call Anoka <br />County Human services at 422-7089 <br />for more information about this <br />program. <br /> <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />Truth in Taxation <br />Hearing <br /> <br />The City Council has set hearing <br />dates for the Truth in Taxation <br />Hearing to be Thursday, December 7, <br />.199s.at l:oo-p.m.wIttt-a.eontinuation- <br />date of Thursday, Decernber14, <br />1995, if needed. Anoka County will <br />be sending out "Notice of Proposed <br />Property .Tax" to each taxpayer. <br /> <br /> <br />. <br />1995 Citizen of the Year <br />and Business PersODS of <br />the Year Awards <br /> <br />Do you know someone who has <br />made an exceptional contribution to <br />the CIty of Centerville? The nominee <br />could inciude persons who are <br />cUrrently adlve or have made <br />contribution in the past. Applications <br />for nominations areavaitable at City <br />Hall.
