Administrator/Engineer's Report
 November 28, 2018
ADMINISTRATION
2019 Budget
The City Council has adopted the Preliminary Budget and Tax Levy for 2019. This
amount will be publicized with the Truth in Taxation Notices. The Council may adopt
the proposed levy as its final levy or may adopt a lower amount, but may not raise the
proposed budget.
The council also held a budget workshop on November 14,just prior to the regular City
Council meeting where additional guidance on a final budget was given. A final budget
workshop will be held prior to the November 28 meeting, with the final budget adoption
taking place at that regular council meeting. The overall budget schedule is below:
November 14 Special Work Session—Final Budget Review
November 28 Regular Meeting—Final Budget and Tax Levy Adoption
Centennial Public Schools
City staff met with school staff on October 23, 2018. The meeting was productive and
we are moving towards resolution of the plat issues at Centerville Elementary School. A
wide variety of other topics were discussed, including display of some of the Dupre
artifacts, use of the school parking lot, snow storage, downtown redevelopment and much
more.
Elections
Election season has finally come to a close. Thanks to Clerk Bender for managing the
entire process, including a dozen election judges, several weeks of early and absentee
voting and one final marathon Tuesday. All in all, it was a smoothly run operation for
what is an essential part of democracy.
Congratulations to Mayor Paar and Councilmember Love for winning reelection and to
Councilmember-elect Lakso for her election.
Metro Cities Draft Legislative Policy
Metro Cities is a branch of the League of Minnesota Cites whose main function is
lobbying on behalf of its member cities (like us) at the state legislature. Each year, they
put out a draft of their proposed stances on various topics that may come up in legislation
at the next session. That draft policy is voted on by the membership at a meeting in late
November. I will be in attendance at that meeting and will be casting our vote.
Therefore, I am your voice in shaping this policy. Please read through the draft policies
at this website lit tlr //w % tictrocitiesti c),g/I., I t vC;;;;,lro1iiand let me know if
there are any policies, with which you disagree.
64
