City of Centerville
Planning and Zoning Commission
October 1, 2019

1. Driveway/Parking Ordinance Revisions

Following the public hearing, the Commission discussed the various elements of the proposed
code changes and gave staff direction, to bring back proposed language which addresses:

 Move from 2 accessory vehicles allowed outside to 3
 Add some language about keeping the accessory vehicles in good repair and or “neat and
tidy”. In other words, no ripped tarps, leaky oil, missing parts, etc.
 Delete the last part of “(N) where it says “…they have an overall length from front to back
of 35 feet or less.” And instead, say “…it does not project into the right-of-way.”
 Delete the 48 hour provision.
 Prohibit Tractor Trailers (not the front part, but the trailer part).
 Width of the driveway is to be limited to the width of the garage, but no greater than 32’ in
the right-of-way. We should add language about excluding “flares” of a certain dimension.
We should add restrictions for cul-de-sacs or other lots narrower than say, 60 feet at the
right-of-way line.
 On the figures, the area shown for #6 shows pavement up to the property line, which is not
allowed. Somehow, we need to show that we would allow parking in the easement, but
that we still have a 5’ setback for the paved area. We would need it a little different for
each figure, since we don’t allow vehicles to be parked on the grass, but do allow
accessory vehicles to be parked there.
 Update figures to show allowed vs. not allowed color scheme. Note that on-street parking
is not allowed.
 We’ll need some added language about the second driveway – when and where one is
permitted – corner lots only; only to a structure (what is a structure? Does it need to be
able to house the vehicle?)

No official action taken.

VII. NEW BUSINESS

1. Re-Scheduling of November 5 Meeting Due to Election

Motion by Commissioner Fehrenbacher, seconded by Commissioner Haiden to Re-Schedule
the Commision’s Regularly Scheduled Meeting of November 5 to November 12, 2019. All in
favor. Motion carried.

VIII. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

1. Not Available

IX. Announcements and Updates

1. Council Member Liaison
2.
