6.0 PROJECTED CHANGES TO THE ENVIRONMENT, LAND USE, AND
SURFACE AND GROUNDWATER
6.1 Changes to the Environment and Land Use
Appendix B contains land use maps showing both current and future land uses. The large percentage
of the DWSMA for Centerville covers areas that are already developed and don’t expect to see major
development over the coming ten years, other than continued growth of residential areas.Expansion
in commercial or industrial areas may produce additional potential contaminant sources within the
DWSMA, depending on the nature of businesses that may develop within these zones areas.
The DWSMA overlaps into the cities of Lino Lakes and Hugo.Expansion of commercial and
industrial land uses in the Lino Lakesposes the most significant potential land use changes that could
impact the aquifer serving Centerville’s wells. Since Lino Lake and Hugo also utilize the same
aquifer, cooperative efforts to protect the aquifer will be important.
6.2 Changes to Surface and Groundwater
It is expected that thecurrent water supply system for the City of Centervillewill remain sufficient for
the next ten years. Noadditional water supply wells are planned for the coming decade. It is not
currently anticipated that Lino Lakes or Hugo will add any new municipal wells within the Centerville
DWSMA, but this could change depending on growth in water demands. Any proposed new water
supply wells (or changes to current wells) will need to be reviewed by both the MDH and the
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to make sure no negative impacts are created by the
planned wells.
15
193803358
Stantec Consulting Services, Inc.
