City of Centerville <br />EDA Minutes <br />December 16, 2020 <br />V. BILLS AND COMMUNICATIONS <br />Executive Director Statz stated that he had sent out a communication to local restaurants and bars <br />in anticipation of Governor Walz possibly ordering that they stay closed for a period of time. He <br />asked the businesses to let the EDA know if there is anything they can do to help, and to stay in <br />touch. <br />1. Candidate Interviews <br />a. Pete Carlson - (not present at the meeting) <br />b. Justin Knabe <br />Executive Director Statz informed the commission that Mr. Carlson elected not to formally apply <br />for the position and would not <br />Executive Director Statz gave Mr. Knabe a brief description of the EDA, the reason the seat is <br />vacant, and told him what is expected of a commissioner. President Hanzal then asked Mr. Knabe <br />a series of six interview questions <br />Question Number 1: Can you tell us what your qualifications are and why do you want to be a <br />member of the EDA? <br />Mr. Knabe responded that he has a vested interest in the community since he owns a business in a <br />commercial property space here. He stated that part of his nature is that he likes to help people and <br /> values. He lives in Hugo, and moved his business <br />to Centerville a little over a year ago. He feels that Centervill <br />do not hear much about, and no one knows where it is unless you live within a 10 mile radius. <br />There is not a lot of commercial property, but he f <br />and he would like a voice in the types of businesses that come to town. He would like to see <br />businesses that attract people to move here or want to spend time here. He also minored in property <br />management in college and feels that his degree would correlate. <br /> <br />Question Number 2: The EDA requires a commitment on the third Wednesday of each month plus <br />potential further workshops and occasional community events. Do you foresee and problems with <br />attending these meetings on a regular basis? <br /> <br />Mr. Knabe said that he does not see any problems with attending these meetings, and since he <br />owns his own business, his schedule is very flexible and he can fit a lot of things in, even during <br />the work day. President Hanzal asked if Mr. Knabe had ever attended any city meetings. Mr. Knabe <br />said he had not. <br /> <br />Question number three: The EDA is often required to make decisions that have financial <br />implications to our taxpayers. Describe the steps you will go through as a commissioner to make <br />decisions, who will you listen to and where will you go for advice. <br /> <br />Mr. Knabe answered that he will go to people who have been on the board and have experience. <br />He stated that he would love to contribute, but also does not want to jump in without first getting <br /> Page 2 of 7 <br /> <br />
