<br />City of Centerville <br />Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes <br />January 6, 2021 <br /> <br />1. Main Street Market – Ms. Angela Conley <br />The following points were discussed: <br />• This event will start the week before Fete des Lacs and continue for 6 weeks – July 8 through <br />August 12, 2021; <br />• Contact 7 prospective vendors that were interested in 2020; <br />• Need to explore finding “Farmers Market” type vendors which would fulfil providing the <br />nutritious foods as part of this event; possibly pay a few farmers to provide produce, if needed; <br />• Encourage vendors to accept EBT cards; <br />• Determine job descriptions for volunteers; <br />• Determine if Covid safety procedures will still be necessary at that time; <br />• Evaluate newspaper advertising & other media timing; <br />• Develop a press release to enhance advertising; <br />• Administrator Statz will contact a representative of the Bald Eagle Waterski Club (Marie V.); <br />• All City/P & R Committee costs will be covered by the grant; the grant, in the amount of $3,500, <br />covers the purchase of 6 picnic benches, newspaper/media advertising and portable signage to <br />promote the event; <br />• No revenue is expected for the first year. <br /> <br />2a. Skate Night - January 8, 2021 <br />This event was cancelled by city staff, due to the extension of the Governors' Covid restrictions to the <br />middle of January. <br /> <br />2b. Skate Night - February 6, 2021 <br />The Skate Night for February, scheduled from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, will remain scheduled dependent on <br />the Covid restrictions in place at the beginning of February. There is currently no ice on the hockey rink <br />due to the warmer weather. Committee Member Waeghe will begin marketing this event mid-January. <br />There will be no popcorn or hot chocolate provided. There will be a bonfire; will need to pick up pallets. <br /> <br />Motion by Committee Member Waeghe, seconded by Committee Member Errickson-Grahek to <br />allow city staff to cancel the February Skate night if the Governor's Orders prohibit such activities <br />at that time. All in favor. Motion carried. <br /> <br />3. Rain Barrels - Adopt-a-Park <br />Committee Member Seeley provided an update on her research of purchasing and placing rain barrels in <br />the various parks for the watering of plants and flowers. She found that used 55 gallon, food grade barrels <br />are usually carried by Western Container, in Minneapolis, but none are available at this time. The cost <br />in 2018 for a used barrel was $45.00. Suggestion was made to check on Craigslist and also to research <br />finding other sources. Hoses and adapters will also need to be purchased. <br /> <br />VI. NEW COMMITTEE BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Fete des Lacs – Mr. Pat Branch <br /> <br />At the initial meeting of this committee, the dates set for this festival will be July 13 through July 18, <br />th <br />with May 5 as the decision point as to whether this event can go forward, dependent on the regulations <br />in place, if any, regarding Covid-19. It is recommended that future Fete des Lacs committee meetings be <br />held on the first Wednesday, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, immediately preceding the Park and Recreation <br /> <br /> <br />
