City of Centerville's <br />Parks and Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes <br />February 3, 2021 <br />the Tracy McBride Park. Overall, the structure is in good shape, but due to frost movement, the ages 5- <br />12 play structure is the highest priority and is in need of replacement of some deteriorated play stations. <br />The following are recommendations for repair and replacements: Touch up paint areas where it has <br />chipped; remove climber portion & re -install to level the area which has heaved due to frost and replace <br />the following components which have cracks or are faded: the smaller slide, the upper portion of the <br />large slide, the steering wheel at the Tic-Tac-Toe play station. An estimate was received in the amount <br />of $6,219, from Flagship Recreation, for the cost of the repairs and replacements. <br />Motion made by Committee Member Bettin2er, seconded by Committee Member Seeley to <br />recommend to the City Council to approve up to $7,000, for repairs and replacement of the <br />playground structure for ales 5 to 12 as detailed in Mr. Paul Palzer's report dated February 3, <br />2021. Source of funding will be from the Capital Equipment Replacement Fund. All in favor. <br />Motion carried. <br />3. Centennial Little League Request for use of LaMotte Park <br />A request was received from Mr. Patrick Mahr, President of the Centennial Lakes Little League, for the <br />use of the baseball and softball fields and facilities at Laurie LaMotte memorial Park for the spring and <br />summer months of 2021 beginning April 1 through September 30; Monday through Friday from 4:00 <br />p.m. until dark. A copy of the schedule will be sent to Centerville staff as soon as they are printed in <br />April, which will also provide Centerville with the schedule for the dragging agreement. In the past, the <br />field usage was primarily Monday through Thursday on all three fields. <br />Motion made by Committee Member Wae2he, seconded by Committee Member Seeley to <br />recommend to the City Council to approve the request of the Centennial Lakes Little League for <br />the use of the Laurie LaMotte Memorial Park with the exclusion of Friday, July 16 during the Fete <br />des Lacs Festival. All in favor. Motion carried. <br />In addition, they are planning their park clean-up day for Saturday, April 17, with a back-up date of <br />Saturday, April 24. They would like to invite the Mayor and members of both the City Council and Parks <br />and Recreation Committee to stop by the fields to meet their volunteers who will be cleaning and raking <br />the fields. They are very appreciative of the partnership between their organization and the City of <br />Centerville. <br />4. Adopt -a -Garden Program <br />Staff has researched and provided Committee Member Seeley information regarding the purchase of rain <br />barrels for seven of the parks. Information was received from the Recycling Association of Minnesota: <br />Rain Catcher Rain Barrel at a cost of $79 each; new with a 1 year warranty; made out of 100% recycled <br />plastic; top of the barrel with a spoke and wheel pattern keeps it child & pet safe; there is an aluminum <br />mesh screen to keep out debris & other items; in addition to the mesh screen, each one comes with a <br />garden hose, shut-off thumb valve, hanging hose clip, overflow hose and linking kit to connect additional <br />barrels. Also discussed was a way to make these available to the residents. <br />Motion made by Committee Member Seeley, seconded by Committee Member Errickson-Grahek <br />to recommend to the City Council to purchase seven (7) rain barrels for use at park entrance <br />monuments at a cost not to exceed $553 with the funds coming out of the Parks Fund (General <br />Page 3 of 6 <br />
