CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />a, <br />ternife. <br />Agenda Item # Department Requested Council Meeting Date <br />IX 1 City Attorney / CLPD January 12, 2022 <br />TITLE OF ISSUE: <br />Opioid Litigation Settlement Proceeds <br />ti::::................._...:- _._._... _-_ - _.. <br />BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: <br />The State of Minnesota sued the pharmaceutical industry related to opioids. The Attorney General has <br />tentatively settled for $337 million. Those funds will be distributed to those entities who join in the settlement <br />agreement. The proposed use of those funds will be to combat the effects of drug abuse related to opioid use. <br />Your police department and prosecutor are currently engaged in these efforts. The City could defray some of <br />its costs by using these settlement proceeds.
