City of Centerville
Council Meeting Minutes
June 9, 2021

Administrator Statz stated Mr. Schack wanted this on the agenda to introduce the idea and consider
the city’s role regarding water quality, water taxes, and questioned where the money goes. He also
wondered what share of this project would be Centerville’s responsibility. He noted the
presentation was to show a problem and to provide information, put it on the watershed’s capital
funds, and look at grant possibilities.

Mayor Love stated shoreline erosion work has shown in the past to help the lake.

Council Member Koski agreed with the need to find out where the contamination is coming from
and put money towards that. He stated lakes are a high priority around Centerville and we need to
do our best to keep it clean.

Administrator Statz stated Mr. Shack is the one who wanted this on the agenda along with CLHOA.
He noted that Peltier Lake is the main problem and the backflow from Peltier Lake is causing
Centerville Lake to be contaminated. He wondered if something needs to be done to Peltier Lake
and how much of that is our contribution. Mr. Kocian explained they are currently studying the
backflow of Peltier Lake.

Council Member Mosher questioned if we treat Centerville Lake will Peltier Lake then be a
problem creating a cutting off or diversion of flow. Mr. Kocian stated Centerville Lake would
flow out and raise Peltier Lake a little. He would also look at solutions.

Ms. Gloria Semmelink, 7202 LaValle Street, wondered what kind of treatment it is and what kind
of results have been seen. Mr. Kocian replied Bald Eagle Lake was completed in 2014 and 2016.
It was the amount of alum that is projected to be put in Centerville Lake. Results have been very
good on Bald Eagle Lake as water clarity went up 50% and results have held for last 6 years.

Council Member Mosher wondered where the fees go for water conservation. Administrator Statz
stated it goes to watershed.

Mayor Love thanked everyone for their comments on this issue.

V. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

1.
