City of Centerville <br />Council Work Session & City Council Meeting Minutes <br />December 8, 2021 <br /> <br />Grant under VIII. Old Business, Item #4; Winter Season Porta-Potties and Schedule Meeting for <br />Performance Review of City Administrator under IX. New Business, Items 8 and 9 respectively. <br /> <br />Motion by Council Member Koski, seconded by Council Member Mosher to Approve the <br />Agenda as Amended. All in favor. Motion carried. <br /> <br />IV. APPOINTMENTS/PRESENTATIONS/COMMENTS <br /> <br />1. Special Guest Speaker <br /> <br />Administrator Statz stated that the Special Guest must be running late and that upon arrival, <br />Council would circle back to the item. <br /> <br />This item was taken out of order due to attendance of participants. <br /> <br />3. CLPD - Quarterly Check-in <br /> <br />Sergeant Walberg stated that he was appointed to appear this evening on behalf of the CLPD, he <br />planned on attending monthly providing statistics, updates, etc. He stated that the CLPD has a <br />new Officer who just completed field training (Officer Tonda). <br /> <br />Council Member Koski asked Sergeant Walberg from his perspective what the challenges facing <br />CLPD and in Centerville for 2022 and what could Council do to assist them. Sergeant Walberg <br />stated that call numbers have increased and that staffing would be something to consider. He <br />stated that often times we are running at bare minimums but with the addition of Officer Tonda it <br />will help as it takes several officers per call. Council Member King asked if there was any <br />overflow from the cities. Sergeant Walberg stated that stolen vehicles has increased but it is hard <br />to say if this is related. Mayor Love spoke about civility and stated that it shocked him that people <br />are just mean and he is proud of our State and City and incivility is not as apparent here. He stated <br />that the congeniality of Council it is wonderful and the same is within the Police Department. With <br />proper citizen engagement and with the community as a whole, we continue that encouragement <br />and desire for everyone to be leaders in this area by treating people how you would want to be <br />treated. <br /> <br />Mayor Love thanked Sergeant Walberg for attending this evening and working with us. He stated <br />that he anticipated seeing him more often and for him to share more broadly in the future. <br /> <br />Administrator Statz stated that following review of his emails he stated that the Special Guest <br />Speaker on this evening’s agenda was in error and that would be occurring at the next meeting. <br />He also stated that Ms. Vento did notify him that she would be late this evening. He suggested <br />circling back when she arrived. <br /> <br />Mayor Love stated that they would be moving to VI. Public Hearings, Item #1. Administrator <br />Statz stated that there were two (2) separate public hearings on Council’s agenda that were very <br />different items. <br /> <br />2. Ms. Susan Vento – Met.
