City of Centerville <br />WS & Council Meeting Minutes <br />February 23, 2022 <br />Redevelopment Authority, Association of MN Counties, Airport Committee, Anoka County <br />Extension Committee, Children and Family Council Governing Board, Community Corrections <br />Advisory Board, Human Services Committee, Information Technology Committee, Library Board <br />Liaison, Management Committee, Parks Committee, Transportation Committee, along with other <br />Special Topic Committees. <br />He gave a brief review of projects, stating: 35E bridge at County Road J, exit and entrance ramps <br />on County Road J several years ago, construction of a round-about near Tria, improvements to <br />Centerville Road, resurfacing of Lake Drive, Highway 10 improvements, Highway 65 <br />thth <br />improvements (97 to 177), broadband project and reduction of the speed limit on Lake Drive. <br />Mayor Love thanked Mr. Reinert for his review. Commissioner Reinert stated that Council or <br />residents could reach out to him at any time. <br />Council Member King stated that Ms. Samantha Markman, Economic Development Director, has <br />been working with the EDA and been a great asset to them. <br />Discussion ensued regarding completing the bike path along Centerville Road, lowering the speed <br />limit on Lake Drive being a good thing, improvements to the cross-walk on Centerville Road, Post <br />Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Fire Fighters and Police Officers (all front-line workers) also <br />being affected by PTSD, Mercy HospitalÓs renovations and services provided, WorkerÓs <br />Compensation Claims due to PTSD, highlighting services, programs and assistance available to <br />all residents of the County and being proactive in providing services. <br />2. Ms. Bev Mathiasen, Republic Services Î Annual Audit/Market Trends <br />Mayor Love welcomed Ms. Mathiasen, Municipal Sales Manager, Republic Services. <br />Ms. Mathiasen thanked Council for the opportunity to provide them with a brief update of the past <br />year. She reviewed the presentation that was contained in CouncilÓs packet with them. She <br />reminded Council that their contracted services agreement would be expiring in 2023, that all of <br />the factors reviewed would play a part in an extension or Requests for Proposals (RFPs) going <br />forward with any/all vendors. She stated that she feels that the relationship with Centerville is a <br />partnership, one that can jointly be approved upon with education to residents and stated that staff <br />has been a pleasure to work with. <br /> <br />She briefly reviewed improvements/investments/sustainability programs that Republic Services <br />has been making and offered tours of their facilities if desired. <br /> <br />Mayor Love thanked Ms. Mathiasen for her update and opened the floor to Council for questions <br />or comments. <br /> <br />Brief discussion ensued regarding optical sorters, hand sorting, education at all levels including <br />school age, the goal of contamination being less than 15%, Clean-Up Day and the possibility of <br />having two (2) events, the percentage of ÐrealÑ recycling being contaminated and continued <br />information for Council review. <br /> <br />Page 2 of 9 <br /> <br />
