Chief James Mork
Dr. Stephen R. Covey wrote some very poignant thoughts on the
Nobility of Policing.
officer, in an instant, can impact an individual for life, and even a
community for generations.Given this realization, every police officer
must be centered on what is important.Service, justice, and
fundamental fairness, these are the foundational principles in which
How different would our world
be today if every officer always focused on service, justice, and
fundamental fairness? At theCentennial Lakes Police Department,we
sum that up with our motto of Serving with Courage and
Compassion. That motto means so much to us that we have it printed
on the hood of our squad cars.In addition to that, I challenge every
officer to leave each call better than they found it.That may seem like
a simple statement, but leaving a call better than they found it can have
a profound change on a community and their view of police
officers. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. How do
you change policing? One call at a time.
One of the big challenges of 2021 continued to be Covid-19 and the uncertainties that disease presented
in the short and long term.We took the necessary precautions and protective measures to stay healthy,
we no longer have to consider it a threat. One of the
negative results of being quarantined and having to change so many of our daily routines resulted in
additional calls for service for mental health and crisis response.Whenever the right opportunity
presented itself, we partnered with the Anoka County Crisis Response team that was called out 24/7 to
respond to mental health crisis calls. We are thankful for that partnership and their
professionalism.Covid-19 and all the issues that surround it, aswell as everyday life can be burdensome
for officers.
mental health.Knowing that officers suffer from the same issues that everyone else in the community
suffersfrom, as well as being exposed to traumatic calls repeatedly, we wanted to make sure that the
officers had the right tools in place to deal with those issues in a healthy manner. We teamed up with
a local counseling office that specializes in keeping police officers healthy. Our program requires each
officer to meet with a counselor at least once per year to discuss how things are going.By having
everyone attend, it removes any stigma that officers may feel goes along with meeting a counselor. It
alsoIf
the officer would benefit from additional sessions, we allow for that as well.I personally have
participated in this program and have found it very helpful and non-threatening.
It is a fantastic way to know
what your police department is up to.In January of 2021 we promoted Lieutenant Aldrich to the position
of Captain. In April we promoted Officer Katy Mannin to the position of Corporal, and she is the first
2021 Annual Report CENTENNIAL LAKES POLICE DEPARTMENT
3
