During Fire <br />Prevention Week, firefighters ramp up their public education and <br />outreach efforts in an effort to decrease casualties caused by fires. <br /> <br />The Centennial Fire District (CFD) will be at the schools teaching <br />students throughout the week, and posting messages on their Facebook <br />page emphasizing that ÐFire wonÓt wait. <br /> <br />Fire Prevention Week is observed every year during the week of <br />th <br />October 9 in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began <br />on October 8, 1871 and lasted for two days. The fire caused more than <br />250 deaths, left 100,000 people homeless, destroyed more than 17,000 structures and burned more than <br />2,000 acres of land. <br /> <br />DonÓt wait to plan your escape.
