CITY OF CENTERVILLEREQUEST FOR ACTION Agenda Item # Department: RequestedMeetingDate: March 14, 2023 Planning/Legal VI.3 TITLE OF ISSUE: Moratorium on Cannabis Sales – Discussion of Timeline/Next Steps BACKGROUND AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: On August 24, 2022, the City Council passed a resolution, setting a moratorium on cannabis sales in the city. The moratorium went into effect upon its publication on September 20, 2022. As with all moratoriums, the maximum duration is one year. The intent is to use that time to study the issues and make any changes to city code, prior to its expiration. Attached is an ordinance recently adopted by the City of Lexington addressing cannabis sales, along with their application for licensure, for the Commission's review. Staff has been following the various legislative efforts as well, but review of the proposed bills seems premature at this point. In the next month or two, the Commission should decide on a general path: no regulation, regulation, sales allowed by license, etc. Then staff can begin to formulate a plan based on that direction.
