City of Centerville <br />Park & Recreation Meeting Minutes <br />October 4, 2023 <br />, <br />The Committee determined that they desired Kick Sleds and Snowshoes for Saturday, January 13 <br />2024, and the inclusion of Fat Tire Bikes for Friday, February 9, 2024. The cost for the Fat Tire <br />Bikes was $300. <br /> <br />Motion made by Committee Member Seeley, seconded by Committee Member Peterson to <br />recommend to the City Council to Approve up to $500 for Equipment Rental from Wargo <br />Nature Center for both Events. All in favor. Motion carried. <br /> <br />6. Sign/Autograph Snowplow Suggestion Î Touch A Truck Events <br /> <br />Within the Main Street Market Î Kids Night, a ÐTouch a TruckÑ event has been held (Centennial <br />Lakes Police, squad; Centennial Fire District, fire engine; M-Health Fairview, ambulance; Rehbein <br />Transit, school bus; etc. It was also stated that these same entities were involved in last yearÓs <br />Trunk or Treat Event held in October. It was suggested that individuals participating in the event <br />be allowed to sign/autograph the snowplow blade. Staff involved the Public Works Director, <br />Palzer to secure his input on the idea. He felt that ÐtaggingÑ was an issue within our parks and on <br />park equipment so this action may provide the improper use/etiquette for property not owned by <br />them or their parents. It was suggested that holding a naming contest similar to that of the City of <br />Minneapolis or St. Paul be completed. After additional discussion, it was decided that a contest <br />for naming a snowplow was a better option with more details to follow. <br /> <br />7. Trunk or Treat Î Saturday, October 28, 2023, 9:30 to 11:30 am <br /> <br />City Clerk Bender stated that the information was available on the cityÓs website and discussion <br />ensued regarding volunteers, parking and promotion. It was discussed that volunteers should <br />arrive at 9 a.m. <br /> <br />VI. NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Trail/Sidewalk Snow Removal Map Î Discussion <br /> <br />An email was received, along with an updated Parks and Trails map with the trail plow routes <br />highlighted, from City Administrator Statz. He wanted to obtain the CommitteeÓs input regarding <br />whether there were recommendations for removal/adding any areas for plowing. It was stated that <br />street clearing is given priority and then trails and sidewalks being generally cleared within 24 <br />hours. Several additional areas were discussed but additional information was needed. City Clerk <br />Bender stated that the city may receive 20-30 complaints regarding cleaning of sidewalks/trails <br />annually. <br /> <br />2. Trail Closure West Side of Centerville Elementary During School Hours - Signage <br /> <br />A safety request has been received by City Administrator Statz from Centennial Elementary <br />Principal Marken, along with Centennial Lakes Police Department, Chief James MorkÓs approval, <br />to place signage closing the trail, at each end (Centerville Road & Lakeland Circle) during school <br />hours to secure the outdoor play areas/open space of the school.
